I just saw another television show where the nurse was portrayed as an overly-sexed bimbo. It s obvious the image of the nursing profession still needs some good public relations. And, once in a while we have an unexpected opportunity to help educate the public to what nursing is all about.Proud to be a nurse.
My chance came on a warm Saturday morning when I had a coveted weekend off from my job in a long-term care facility. My husband and I headed for the Cubs ballpark via the train. Just as the train arrived at the final station the conductor curtly shouted for all the passengers to immediately leave the car. He hustled us toward the door. On the way I glimpsed some people huddled around a man lying limply in his seat.I’m proud to be a Nurse.
The conductor talked excitedly into his walkie-talkie. There were fragments of “emergency” and “ambulance.” Surprising myself, I approached him and said, “I’m a nurse, could I be of any help’?.”

The Nurse Aide Registry keeps track of those individuals who have met written and skills test criteria to be certified for employment in long-term care settings, usually nursing homes. The registry also maintains records of those nurse aides who have had a finding of abuse, neglect or misappropriation of property against them.
The most significant achievement for this area was giving facilities or any individual the ability to inquire on the status of a state tested nurse aide by accessing the registry through the internet. This gives the customer three options to conduct an inquiry. They can call the nurse aide registry and use the voice automated system, talk to a nurse aide registry customer service technician, or use the web-based verification system. This addition will reduce the time it takes to verify the status of a state tested nurse aide.

Neonatal nursing can be a great career option for those who love infants and consider it a pleasure to work for them. The neonatal nurses work for three different levels – in the first level, they take care of healthy born babies after childbirth, in the second level they cater to the needs of the ill newborns or those who have had a premature birth and in the third level, they work for the newborns with problems which cannot be treated or cured in the earlier two levels. You can choose the level in which you wish to work as a neonatal nurse, as per your inclinations and capacities.
Nature of Job of a Neonatal Nurse
The job description of a neonatal nurse would mainly consist of their important contribution in dealing with cases wherein newborn babies have serious problems like respiratory disorders and low weight at birth. These nurses also guide and solve all the queries of the parents of the newborns related to child health and well being. A neonatal nurse has to adapt and act quickly to tackle the difficult situations and have good communication skills and presence of mind which are useful for conveying the right information related to health issues.

A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has completed advanced education (a minimum of a master’s degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses. Nurse practitioners provide a broad range of health care services. They provide some of the same care provided by physicians and maintain close working relationships with physicians. An NP can serve as a patient’s regular health care provider.
Nurse practitioners see patients of all ages. The core philosophy of the field is individualized care. Nurse practitioners focus on patients’ conditions as well as the effects of illness on the lives of the patients and their families. NPs make prevention, wellness, and patient education priorities.

An ICU nurse is sometimes called a critical care nurse. These are registered nurses (RNs) who may possess additional training, internships or education. They work primarily in intensive care units (ICUs), providing the extensive care required for patients in these units. There may be a lot of hands on work for these nurses, who can also be the first point of contact for family members, helping them to cope with a loved one’s serious illness.
Training to become an ICU nurse is variable. Some people, upon completing RN training, immediately get jobs in this unit of a hospital. Many hospitals require more. They might offer an internship to train in critical care nursing, which could last for several years, or they look for nurses who have already worked on surgical or medical wards for a number of years. Job requirements might exceed these, and the only way some hospitals will hire someone is if they possess certification as a critical care RN or if they have a master’s degree that specializes in critical care. Some nursing schools have this advanced degree.
